Press Release from Romania.s Ministry for the Environment and Water
Management with regards to the Rosia Montana open cast gold mining
development
In late October 2004 Romania.s Ministry for the Environment and Water
Management (MMGA) published a press release whose original can be
accessed on
http://www.mappm.ro/informatii/PresaZilnica/Rosia%20Montana.pdf
Given the importance of its content particularly in light of the
international interest that the Rosia Montana gold mining project has
provoked, Alburnus Maior has taken the liberty to translate this press
release into English. Alburnus Maior has translated the information as
accurate as possible and with the sole intention to inform the wider
public about the particular issues raised by Romania.s Ministry for the
Environment and Water Management.
Given that new discussions related to the Rosia Montana project started
in the country and abroad, we herewith update our previous press
releases in the subject with the following :
1) Presently, gold ore extraction and processing is undertaken in the
so-called Cetate open pit by the RosiaMin mining company which in
return belongs to MINVEST S.A. Deva under the authority of the
Ministry for Economy and Commerce. The technological chain consists
of : open pit ore extraction, ore crushing, transport, ore processing
and waste disposal in the
Saliste tailing pond.
2) During the past few months no new developments related to the Rosia
Montana Gold Corporation development appeared other than already
released to the press.
3) To date S.C. Rosia Montana Gold Corporation undertakes solely
geological exploration based on geological research and exploration
programs (drilling, samples and analysis); these being the only
activities for which the company has the necessary authorizations.
4) S.C. Rosia Montana Gold Corporation does not undertake exploitation
works in the area.
5) We would like to point out that S.C. Rosia Montana Gold Corporation
has not submitted the technical documentation necessary to launch the
procedure to obtain the
environmental license .
6) On our website, www.mappm.ro there exists updated information
regarding activities in Rosia Montana.
The ministry for the Environment and Water Management (MMGA) would like
to stress again that the ministry.s support for the project or not is
not an issue of discussion and is limited to a strict legal framework
harmonized with that of the European Union. The later demands for an
official position to be formulated only after the project owner has
submitted the complete technical project and the
environmental impact assessment.
Based on the Government.s strategy in the field, MMGA will not promote
investments that approach environmental factors from a purely economic
perspective and are not according to the principle of sustainable use
of the country.s natural resources. Also, it will not approve an
investment that could lead to a potential risk of pollution in the area
or across the border.

kontakt z czeskimi mineralnikami. Może wleziemy tam razem.
Jakby się kiedyś udało ten koncept zrealizować, to będę trąbił :-)
